Leadership Opportunities in Schools

Leadership Courses

Schools are offered access to Leadership/Foundation coaching courses in a range of sports for Year 9 Pupils onwards. These Leadership courses are designed to provide regular, high quality support, training and development for young people that are committed to actively volunteering within their school and / or community.

The primary aim is to help committed young people to develop and grow as leaders and volunteers.

What courses can be accessed?

A range of courses specifically designed for young sports leaders are available.

In the past we have delivered courses which are nationally recognised qualifications and can act as a first step on the coaching pathway. These are listed below:

  • Junior Football Leaders Award.
  • Beginner Umpire Award - Netball.
  • Netball Organisers Course.
  • Start Coaching TAG Rugby.
  • Young Officials Award - Hockey.
  • Emergency 1st Aid.

These courses can be very costly and pupils should take full advantage of subsidised rates from the SSP.

Please note that places on each course are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

What is required of Pupils?

Following training, pupils will be offered a range of volunteering and leadership opportunities that will enable them to put new skills into practice. Some of these may be officiating at an inter-school competition or festivals/competitions organised by the SSP.

It is hoped that you will take up as many of these opportunities as you can as it is these experiences that will set you apart for the rest of the crowd when applying for colleges, university and jobs in the future!
