One way in which the SSP aims to support provision of additional activities on a school site is through the Active Lunchtime Project. The aim of this project is to increase the number of primary school aged children taking part in physical activity at school but outside of curriculum time.
The SSP has in the past provided training for lunchtime supervisors and equipment to be used in the delivery of structured physical activity. This project aims to help support the management of structured activities by providing funding to be used to employ additional staff, potentially a TA, above current staffing levels, to lead and manage the delivery of lunchtime physical activity clubs. In addition to this funding, your staff will also receive ongoing regular support from a Specialist Health Promotion staff member, who is trained as a physical activity deliverer. This support provided will determined by the school itself, but will involve school visits, mentoring and actual delivery.
