Young People Take The Lead

Whilst many of us spent the Easter holidays relaxing and eating chocolate eggs, 25 young sports leaders from North East Lincolnshire spent their time developing their coaching and officiating skills though the Leadership Academy programme.

13 young leaders from across the partnership took part in a two day Basketball Foundation Level Coaching Award. During this time they learnt how to carry out warm up and cool down activities with players, how to introduce the basic fundamentals of the game to beginners and how to demonstrate the basic individual skills of basketball.

Another 12 young leaders took part in a Badminton Young Officials Award in which they learnt a great range of officiating skills from scoring and umpiring to understanding the importance of health and safety and public relations when running matches and tournaments.

Both groups greatly impressed the course tutors, who praised their commitment, enthusiasm and ability.
