U16s Boys Basketball CVL

The North East Lincolnshire School Sports Partnership’s U16 Basketball competition took place across three weeks finishing on Tuesday 20th January at the Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education.hI

The Basketball on show was of a high standard from the off with the first match seeing Humberston B and Oasis Academy Wintringham on Court 1 and Humberston A and Toll Bar Academy on Court 2. Both matches set off at a blistering pace with OAW and Tollbar taking the first points.

John Whitgift Academy were held to a draw in their first game against Humberston A, but this ended up being the only points Whitgift dropped over the three week league!

The second week began with a close game between Humberston A and Healing A and a whitewash victory for John Whitgift Academy over Healing B! Havelock secured their first points of the tournament against Healing B.

The final week saw a full timetable of 10 highly competitive matches with all teams jostling for positions right up until the final games! The top two teams John Whitgift Academy and Oasis Academy Wintringham came head to head in the deciding match of the three week league. After a strong start from both sides John Whitgift began to edge ahead, OAW fought courageously but John Whitgift held on for a 10-4 victory.

This victory saw John Whitgift Academy crowned champions with OAW finishing in a close second with only one point separating the two teams! Congratulations to all teams involved for another high standard competitive tournament!

‘The standard of Secondary Basketball is improving year by year and you can see the children are developing their skills year on year. The event this year was extremely competitive. Congratulations to the winners John Whitgift Academy!’ Nick Hanson Event Organiser.
