Yr7 ESFA 5-a-side Football Tournament

The English Schools Football Association Indoor 5-a-side tournament took place at Grimsby Institute on Thursday 4th December.

There was an excellent turnout, with representative teams from 8 schools competing including Humberston, Oasis Academy Wintringham, John Whitgift, Cleethorpes Academy, Tollbar, Healing, Havelock and Holy Family Catholic Academy.

Schools were split into 2 groups and competed in 12 minute matches.

On pitch 1, Humberston coasted through their group in 1st place, winning all 3 of their matches. Their finishing was clinical, smashing in 13 goals and conceding only 3. In 2nd place, Oasis Academy Wintringham (2-0-1) were only beaten by the group winners, Humberston and gave a good account of themselves. John Whitgift (1-0-2) and Cleethorpes Academy (0-0-3) finished in 3rd and 4th place respectively.

On pitch 2, Tollbar were also in devastating form going forward, scoring 18 goals in their 3 games and winning the group at a canter. Healing (2-0-1) finished in 2nd place, scoring 17 goals and only narrowly losing 2-1 to group winners Tollbar. Havelock (1-0-2) and Holy Family (0-0-3) finished in 3rd and 4th respectively.

After the completion of the group stages, the final was contested between Humberston and Tollbar. Humberston continued their fine form with slick passing, movement and fine finishing, running out as competition winners 4-1.

Event organiser, Mike Womersley said, ‘The standard of Football was of a very good standard tonight, resulting in a highly competitive competition. Good luck to winners, Humberston who I’m sure will give an excellent account of themselves at the regional event in January.’

Congratulations to winners Humberston who will now progress to the Regional event at the Powerleague Soccer Dome (Formerly the JJB Soccer Dome) in Derby on Friday 30th January 2015.
