KS3 & KS4 Boccia Competitions

On Tuesday 21st October the first of a series of KS3 & KS4 Boccia tournaments took place at Franklin College. The event was well attended with 13 teams from 4 schools in attendance from Humberston Academy, Oasis Academy Wintringham, Healing and Cambridge Park.

Boccia is a precision sport, related to boules for people with disability or special educational needs. The competition involved teams of three with up to six players on court at any one time. The aim is to score as many points as possible by players aiming to place their set of coloured balls closest to the white jack. A game consists of 2 ends (an end consists of 6 balls per team) and the team with the highest number of points after the two ends win.

At the KS3 event, 9 schools competed across 2 groups, with a final contested between Healing B and Healing D, with Healing B coming out as KS3 winners after an emphatic 7-0 victory. Healing C came in 3rd, with Oasis Academy Wintringham in 4th place.

At the KS4 event, 4 schools competed in a group format, with the final contested between Cambridge Park and Humberston. Humberston prevailed after an exciting, tense final 3-2. Healing A finished in 3rd place, with Healing B in 4th place.

Event organiser, Nick Hanson said, ‘The tournament was a huge success with the pupils participating a huge credit to their school. Boccia allows children who otherwise wouldn’t get the opportunity to play with or against each other competing on a level playing field. We are keen for children in North East Lincolnshire to get the chance to play new and non-traditional sports.’ HeH

A special mention to the volunteers from Franklin College who helped support and officiate the event.
