Primary & Secondary Indoor Rowing Competition

The North East Lincolnshire School Sports Partnership’s Indoor Rowing Competition took place on Friday 28th February at Cleethorpes Academy.

The morning session involved children representing 9 primary schools, including Scartho Junior Academy, Reynolds Academy, Lisle Marsden Academy, Allerton, Wybers Academy, Enfield, Canon Peter Hall, Oasis Academy Nunsthorpe and Yarborough Academy.

With many children being relatively new to rowing, the  first hour of the session focused on developing safe and effective technique, before moving on to a competitive event in the final hour. Events included individual races, mixed pairs, a team relay and not to mention the highly competitive teachers only event at the end!

The afternoon session was a highly competitive secondary event involving representative teams from Oasis Academy Wintringham, Tollbar Academy, Havelock Academy, Cleethorpes Academy, Humberston Academy, Ormiston Maritime Academy and Holy Family Catholic Academy. The performance at the event was to a very high standard with many students across years 7-11 achieving national standards.

The enthusiasm, teamwork and sportsmanship on show across both events was a joy to see with all pupils getting behind their team and encouraging them to achieve that extra metre or second to win the race!

Congratulations to Scartho Juniors A who were the winners of the Primary event and to Havelock academy who retained their Secondary school title won at last year’s event.

Event organiser Craig Dobbs said:

‘Indoor Rowing continues to grow and develop in North East Lincolnshire and now takes place on the curriculum at schools. Many children at the Secondary event achieved national standards showing a very high level of performance’

Special thanks go to Rob Allenby and Clee Academy for hosting the event, and to the North East Lincolnshire Council: Developing Healthier Communities team who supported the event.
