Description

What is it?

The FA Active Play Through Storytelling training course and supporting resources have been developed to support ‘the beginner girl’ aged 5 to 8 in developing their physical literacy and speaking and listening skills through the medium of creative play and storytelling. Using the inspiration of Disney stories including Aladdin and Incredibles 2 which are engaging, memorable and familiar to the girls participating, girls get ‘lost in play’, work harder and have increased heart rates. They are active through undertaking thoughtfully designed activities as part of the story which focus on developing their fundamental movement skills and having fun.

Who is it for?

It is for staff who support break and lunch time play in Primary Schools. This can be teachers, teaching assistants, lunchtime supervisors or other support staff including reading volunteers. Teachers can also cascade to playground leaders.

What are schools expected to do?

Schools are encouraged to run a Shooting Stars Active Play through Storytelling club for no more than 16 girls. This can be run as a breakfast, lunchtime or after school club and then report back to the FAGFSP strategic lead with numbers of girls attending a breakdown of girls by SEN/D and BAME.
