Sports Hall Athletics - Final Report

The North East Lincolnshire School Sport Partnerships 2015/2016 Yr5/6 Sports Hall Athletics final took place at Grimsby Institute on Wednesday 2nd December.

Competing were the top 7 schools from the 26 teams which have taken part over the last 4 weeks. All schools should be very proud of the major achievement in making the final.

Edward Heneage, Elliston, Fairfield, Great Coates, Healing, Scartho and Springfield were the 7 teams going head to head in order to qualify for the county final, which is due to take place in March at the Pods, Scunthorpe.

The event began with a pulsating obstacle race, with Healing winning the boys event and Edward Heneage victorious in the girls event.

After the completion of the girls track events and at the half way point, Scartho lead due to their consistency in the girls track and boys field events with Fairfield in 2nd place due to their dominance in the boys field events and Edward Heneage a close 3rd with a strong showing from the girls track team.

After the interval, it was the boys turn to compete on the track with Scartho boys overall scoring 86pts, Healing (72pts) and Fairfield and Edward Heneage (62pts)

In the field, Scartho girls (88pts) Edward Heneage girls (86pts) Fairfield and Healing (62pts) completed the scoring.

The competition concluded with the 4x1 relays, complete with slips, baton drops and excitement! Scartho were victorious in both the girls and boys relay events.

After the relay the results were compiled:

1. Scartho – 310
2. Edward Heneage – 291
3. Fairfield - 274
4. Healing - 261
5. Great Coates - 193
6. Elliston - 172
7. Springfield - 169

Congratulations to Scartho and Edward Heneage who will progress as North East Lincolnshire representatives at the Humber school games in March!

All schools deserve huge credit for their behaviour, commitment and sportsmanship which was exemplary throughout.

A special mention to the Grimsby Institute volunteers who helped support the scoring at the event.
