KS3 Boys Badminton Competition

The North East Lincolnshire School Sports Partnership KS3 Boys Badminton Competition took place on Thursday 2nd December at the Grimsby Institute.

There was good representation from schools with 10 teams in competition from Healing, Oasis Academy Wintringham, Cleethorpes Academy, Toll Bar Academy and Havelock.

Each game consisted of 5 matches, involving singles & doubles events for players who were seeded 1-4 in their team.

Teams were split into 2 groups of 5 teams, before coming together for a final between the two group winners.

In group A, Healing A stormed to victory with an excellent standard of Badminton, winning all 4 of their group games. In 2nd place, Oasis Academy Wintringham, were only defeated once by eventual winners Healing, 5-0. Cleethorpes Academy, Tollbar B and Havelock B finished 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively.

Group B was an extremely tight affair with the top 3 teams all accruing 10 points. Havelock A progressed as group winners due to a points difference of +6 with Healing B +2 and Humberston +0. Tollbar A and Oasis Academy Wintringham B finished in 4th and 5th respectively.

The final was contested by the winners of group A, Healing A and the winners of group B, Havelock A. Healing A continued their unbeaten record from the group stage with a 4-0 victory, showing an impressive array of shots and techniques.

Well done to Healing A, who will represent North East Lincolnshire at the County School Games on Thursday 5th February.

Event Co-ordinator, Mike Womersley said: ‘The event saw over 40 boys take part in the competition which is a fantastic turnout. All boys should be congratulated for a closely contested competition, played in a great spirit.’
