Sportshall Athletics Heats

Heat 1

The first heat took place at Oasis Academy Immingham, with 4 teams competing; Coomb Briggs, Canon Peter Hall, Allerton and Eastfield over 12 events.

Last year’s runners up, Coomb Briggs emerged as event winners with a dominant performance in both the track and field events, collecting maximum points in all but 3/24 events across boys and girls.

Eastfield finished in second place with the highlight an outstanding performance in the boy’s chest push and speed bounce.

Allerton and Canon Peter Hall finished joint 3rd.

Heat 2

The second heat took place at The Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education with 6 teams competing; St James, William Barcroft, Welholme, St Josephs, Old Clee and Western.

Western finished as heat winners with a near perfect record on the track across both the boys and girls categories.

St James finished in 2nd place with the highlights being the boys vertical jump/speed bounce and girls performance on the track in the 6 Lap paarlauf/4+ 1 relay.

William Barcroft, Welholme, Old Clee and St Josephs completed the standings in 3rd-6th respectively.

Heat 3

The third heat took place at the Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education with 8 teams competing; Nunsthorpe, Willows, Thrunscoe, Stanford, Fairfield, Reynolds, Springfield and Littlecoates.

Reigning champions Fairfield continued their domination of the event, winning a colossal 15 of the 24 events.

Reynolds finished in 2nd place with the highlight being a fantastic victory in the boy’s long jump and Springfield finished in 3rd position winning 5/24 events and giving an excellent account of themselves for their first appearance at the competition.

Stanford, Thrunscoe, Littlecoates, Nunsthorpe and Willows completed the standings finishing 4th – 8th respectively.

Heat 4

The fourth heat took place at the Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education with 8 teams competing; Edward Heneage, Wybers, Great Coates, Elliston, Scartho Juniors A+B and Humberston A+B.

The 4th heat was extremely competitive with some incredible performances from Edward Heneage, Scartho A, Wybers and Great Coates.

Edward Heneage won 8/24 events whilst Scartho Juniors A won 9/24 events, with Edward Heneage’s consistency marginally pipping Scartho as heat winners.

Wybers finished in 3rd place with the highlight being a perfect 100% record across the boys and girls 2 lap relay, with Great Coates consistency landing them in 4th position.

Elliston, Humberston A, Scartho Juniors B and Humberston B completed the rankings in 5th – 8th position respectively.

The points system used in the heats had no bearing on the overall finding standings and was used to identify finishing positions for the heats only due to the variations in the number of teams competing at each event.

All results from all the events (boys and girls) from the four heats have been inputted into a spreadsheet and based on performance, each school was allocated a score of 1-26 per event. 1st place gained 26 points, 2nd place 25 points etc right down to 26th place getting 1 point.

Congratulations to the following teams who have qualified for next week’s final at the Grimsby Institute Sports Centre on Wednesday 3rd December 2014, 10:00 – 2:00pm.

1 Scartho A

2 Edward Heneage
