Y5/6 Orienteering Competition
On Friday 23rd May the North East Lincolnshire School Sports Partnership Y5/6 Orienteering Competition took place at the Oasis Academy Wintringham in conjunction with Humberside & Lincolnshire Orienteering (HALO) http://www.halo-orienteering.org.uk/. Children used their navigational using a map and compass to move around the course at Oasis Academy Wintringham with real speed. In the year 5 competition; Scartho Juniors, Reynolds, Nunsthorpe and Canon Peter Hall competed, whilst in year 6; Reynolds, Scartho, William Barcroft. Canon Peter Hall, Welholme and Willows participated. Schools received coaching from Brian Slater of HALO leading into the competition and utilised the map reading skills they had learnt. The final placings were worked out as follows:- a team consists of 3 pairs (6 athletes in total) a final position was given to each pair based on the finishing time the quickest pair scored 100 points, the 2nd fastest 99 points and so on. the points for each pair in the team were added together to give a points total for the team. final positions were determined by team with the highest points total winning etc Congratulations to the Scartho & Willows for winning the Yr 5 and Yr 6 events. In addition to the winning teams those teams finishing 2nd and 3rd also qualify for the county orienteering event taking place at the Humber School Games on 11th July at Hymers College, Hull.
