The aim of this programme is to provide qualified support to develop teachers’ confidence, knowledge and skills in relation to the delivery of the chosen activity, hopefully resulting in the teaching of PE being improved over a long term and sustainable basis.
Multi Skills & Multi Sports
Based on feedback from our last Partnership meeting, this programme has been changed to give more flexibility and to enable support across all key stages and all areas of the games curriculum. The coaches from Sports Development are able to deliver:-
This means that you may now decide whether to continue with the multi-skills coaching you received during this academic year or whether you would like to look at a specific sport as a means of delivering the ‘Invasion Games’, ‘Striking and Fielding Games’ or the ‘Athletics’ elements of the National Curriculum. You may also choose to use your coach to support the establishment of High-5 Netball or Kwik Cricket within your school to enable your school to participate in forthcoming competitions. Indeed, the aim of this programme is to enable you to choose the support that is most appropriate for your school.
To take up this opportunity, please email Louise Smith on louise.smith@nelincs.gov.uk with the following details in the half term prior to your allocated slot. Louise will then book the appropriate coach, otherwise time slots will be offered to other schools. If you would like to discuss this further please contact Louise on 01472 323379.
Tennis
The School Sports Partnership are continuing to work with St. James Tennis Club to provide multi skill activities based around mini tennis to our Yr 2 pupils over a 6 week period. As in previous years you will be contacted by the club in the half term prior to your allocated slot to arrange times and days for the coaching to take place.
Dance
We are continuing to work with The Lindsey School and Community Arts College to implement the curriculum dance support programme. It will concentrate on developing teachers’ confidence, knowledge and skills in relation to dance and will also have an emphasis on ‘performance’. All relevant lesson plans, music and additional resources are supplied. The first four weeks of the course will consist of your teachers working with the dance teacher. After that time, staff will continue with the programme by working towards a short performance with support from the dance teacher and a workshop for the students from a professional dance artist. The ultimate aim of the programme is to up-skill teaching staff, increasing their confidence which will hopefully result in the teaching of dance being improved over a long term and sustainable basis.
From September 2009, we will be targeting Year 5 & 6 teachers with the programme. The year groups to be targeted after Christmas will be Years 1 & 2, followed by Years 3 & 4 in the summer term. You can sign up for all three terms in advance. To book a place for a member of staff on this project please contact Mo Bromley, Community Arts Manager on 01472 608856.
Gym
We are still able to offer limited support in the delivering of gymnastics. If your school still needs support please contact Louise Warvill on 01472 871811 to arrange but please be aware that this is on a first come first served basis.
