Recruit into Coaching

What is Recruit Into Coaching?

  • The ‘Recruit into Coaching’ programme runs in the 70 most deprived areas of England, including North East Lincolnshire
  • The aim of the programme is to recruit and deploy 10,000 new volunteer coaches by 2011.
  • 5,680 of the coaches will be delivered through the network of Sports Colleges/School Sport Partnerships (school setting)
  • 4,320 through the network of County Sport Partnerships (community setting).

What does this mean for me?

  • If you are aged 16 to 19 and in full time education in North East Lincolnshire, you could become one of the 10,000 new volunteer coaches!
  • Becoming a volunteer coach in this way may be your first step towards becoming a sports coach.
  • The Recruit Into Coaching programme will help you to do this by providing you with a £150 bursary towards the cost of your first Level 1 Coaching qualification.

Level 1 Qualifications:

  • If accepted onto the RIC programme, you can choose which Level 1 course you would like to spend your £150 on.
  • You could choose any sport: basketball, football, rugby, athletics, gymnastics...
  • The SSP and your FESCO will help you to find a suitable course.

What would I need to do in return?

Those on the RIC programme will:

  • Be expected to complete at least one Level 1 coaching course
  • Commit to a minimum of 15 hours voluntary coaching time on behalf of the school / college / SSP outside of normal curriculum hours e.g. lunchtime and after school
  • Contribute towards the cost of the above courses if you do not fulfil the minimum coaching hours
  • Have fulfilled all child protection requirements e.g. Enhanced CRB clearance
  • Behave at all times in a professional and suitable manner as an ambassador of the SSP

Further Benefits:

Once you have completed the Recruit Into Coaching programme you will be well on your way to becoming a professional coach:

  • You will have your first Level 1 qualification
  • You will be eligible to go on to a Level 2 qualification
  • You will have gained work experience
  • You could apply for paid coaching work

How do I apply?

Step 1: Become part of the Leadership Academy at your school / college.

Step 2: Complete your Leadership Academy form properly:

  • Indicate that you are interested in RIC on the form
  • Show that you have a genuine interest in sport
  • Show that you are already an enthusiastic leader with a genuine interest in coaching
  • Remember: This form will be used to select the best 20 applicants from Grimsby Institute and Franklin College – Make yours stand out!

Step 3: Return your Leadership Academy form to your FESCO by Friday 27th November

Step 4: You will be informed whether you have been accepted onto the programme by Friday 11th December.

And Finally...

All members of the Leadership Academy (whether you get on to RIC or not) will receive:

  • Access to all Leadership Academy courses for a reduced cost (about £10 per course)
  • Volunteering opportunities
  • A goody bag!
  • A t-shirt: Please note your size on your application form!
