PLT Training modules
Five Modules Written by Youth Sport Trust for the PLT
These modules need to be attended by ALL ‘NEW’ PLT’s. Existing PLT’s need only complete the ones they have missed so far.
PLT Module A& B
Key focus: Role of the primary link teacher (PLT) in developing and managing high quality PE and school sport
- Prepare for, and identify, their role and responsibilities in relation to their own school, their partner schools and the SSP and how this will develop their effectiveness as a PLT
- Recognise the characteristics of high quality PE and sport
- Identify the role of the PLT in supporting staff and pupils to achieve high quality PE and school sport (PESS)
- Establish their own school’s strengths and areas for improvement in relation to high quality PESS (as part of whole school development)
- Identify strategies to raise standards within PE, sport and the whole school
- Identify potential outcomes for pupils, class teachers, the PLT, school leaders and others (TAs, coaches, adults other than teachers [AOTTs]) in relation to the intended outcomes of the school sport partnership
- Analyse how their own school’s policies can be improved to contribute to the above.
PLT Module C
Key focus: Planning the pathway: Curriculum and OSHL
- Identify educationally sound principles to plan a curriculum and OSHL programme
- Evaluate the appropriateness of their own existing curriculum and OSHL structure and map
- Explain what makes a balanced curriculum and OSHL programme and the rationale on which it is based
- Identify the distinctive contribution of each area of activity to the PE curriculum
- Identify strategies to improve your own curriculum and OSHL structure and map
Module D
Key focus: Planning for learning
- Identify the essential components of long, medium and short term curriculum planning
- Evaluate own schemes of work and identify strategies to improve them
- Explain why planning for assessment is integral to all teaching, coaching and learning
- Identify the key features of assessment for learning
- Identify strategies to improve assessment for learning
- Prepare a simple and effective system for recording of assessment
Module E
Key focus: Planning/assessment for learning
- Identify characteristics of high quality teaching, coaching and learning within and beyond the curriculum
- Recognise a range of approaches for analysing and evaluating teaching, coaching and learning
- Identify the principles of effective feedback
- Select appropriate methods to support the self-review process
